Della Valle Bernheimer looked to the natural and manmade context as inspiration for the design of this 11 story residential condominium located at the epicenter of Manhattan’s West Chelsea gallery district.
The form and image of the building were inspired by the lively surroundings of 10th Avenue, the beauty of transient forms found in nature, and in nostalgic reference to the trains that once frequented the adjacent High Line.
A unique cladding of expansive glass and stainless the steel panels, stamped on a CNC turret punch with a faceted diamond pattern derived from a digitized image of a train's steam cloud, animates the building as it reflects the ever-changing play of light and the passing of the seasons. As light migrates across the building’s skin, passersby may view a structure that appears to change in a display of mutable perspective.
